Mounia Akl is a Lebanese film director. A graduate of Columbia University’s MFA film program, she was selected by the Cinéfondation of the Cannes Film Festival early in her career, recognizing her promise as both a writer and director. With a poetic lens and a sharp sense of place, Mounia crafts stories rooted in identity, memory, and the shifting landscapes of home. Her debut feature, Costa Brava, Lebanon, premiered at the Venice Film Festival and earned critical acclaim at Toronto and London. Her bold cinematic voice caught the attention of Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who invited her to direct episodes of his upcoming Netflix series House of Guinness.
